NEW INFO! Sorry so long--Good stuff though!

Sorry everyone for not posting lately! We have been in the process of moving and have not had Internet access. It was killing me! Lot's of news from Cass to update you all on. Recent letters are below, I love the first one!

25 Sep.

...I am doing really well in Marksmanship! I am hoping to get the highest honor, "expert."

Your boy is turning into a damn good soldier. (I never doubted that he would not !!!).

I don't have time to write more. I'm sorry!

28 Sep.

Yesterday we were supposed to move into White Phase. It never happened. Our Platoon Guide washed the phase banner last Sunday. Well, he left it on the dryer all week and it disappeared on Friday night. So, the morning of phasing we discovered that our phase banner was gone. We ended up being smoked (punished with PT) for around three hours last night.

On a better note, at BRM (marksmanship training) yesterday I hit 37 our of 40 targets. This was just on a set target range. So the targets did not pop up randomly like they will on Monday-Wednesday. They were the same distance and size though. So, hopefully I will shoot just as well tomorrow. . . . If I shoot 36 out of 40 I receive the highest marksmanship hone, "expert." So wish me luck.

Also, our Company Commander has authorized 5 promotions per Platoon this cycle. That, of course, would be nice to earn. Shooting well and having a good PT score will obviously help. I really hope that I do get a promotion. PFC would definitely be pretty awesome.

4 more weeks and I'll be through.

I got a call from him this past Sunday bright and early at 7:45 a.m. His Commander gave them the choice of going to church or making a 3 minute call. Cass chose the call. We had not talked in a few weeks so I was glad he did. He got "Sharpshooter" in Marksmanship missing "Expert" by only one shot. I'm still very proud of that...not bad for a city boy. Also, we told me he wanted to change his MOS (job) to Combat Engineer! Obviously, it is combat related so I am not thrilled. But he said getting it done is next to impossible. But, he really want to be in combat. That is about all the time we had. But he sounded really good! Better than any of the other calls. He did not sound so tired. I'm trying not to think about the whole combat thing.

05 Oct

Hey, Mom, I ended up hitting 35 of 40 targets on my final qualification. I missed out by one shot. :( So I got "Sharpshooter." What's funny is the day I shot the bet was the day we got in full battle gear (flax jacket, vest with canteens, helmet). It's pretty need thought to strap that stuff on.

I have gained 20 pounds so far. I'm up to 163 pounds. And it's been consistent. So I'm happy about that.

I talked to you on the phone for like two minutes today. I wish Meme could have stayed on the line. Tell her I love her and miss her.

I miss the puppy dogs. :( The story you told me about Pat bustin his ass was funny. (Pat fell out of the RV one morning taking the dogs out!! Our family loves physical humor!).

...The Drill Sergeants are becoming a lot cooler with us as far has how they act. Like, we will chit chat about football and they'll tell us stories. It's pretty chill now.

The only issue is were getting tired of each other. We've been around each other for five weeks, so its understandable. The only real things the DS's are . . . (let's just say difficult) about are letters and phone calls.

Like I said on the phone, I am tying to change my job to 21 B (Combat Engineer). But, like I said, it's like hitting the Lotto. It has to go all the way to the Pentagon.

I can't wait until graduation. I'm tired, literally tired, everyday. I want some SLEEP!

I dunno, I just can't wait to get to see somebody I know. LOL. Not to mention that I really miss driving or working on cars.

Not to mention that people have been giving me shit about wanted to go to a combat MOS. Like its a bad thing to want a combat MOS in the Army? It's ridiculous! I'm tired of the shit. I just got shit for my ASVAB score. "Do you think your the shit or something?" I think it is because I have been doing well....They're gonna need somebody that knows what they are doing. More than half the people here can't shoot for shit and are out of shape. They had the opportunity to qualify 5 more times than me and had 10 extra rounds at least. So 50 shots instead of 40. It's stupid.

Anyways, GTG

P.S. It was good to get that card from everyone I haven't seen in forever. (Our family had a dinner and everyone signed a card for him--Cousins, Great Aunts, Uncles etc.).

Along with the letter, we got an official photo which I have posted here. This is before he gained his 20 lbs. But he looks good! Better!
Please keep sending him letters. You can tell by his last letter he is a little homesick. Thank you all for your support!
