Cass turned 17 on Sunday, August 10, 2008. He wanted to enlist on Monday the 11th. However, he could not be processed until Tuesday the 12th and was sworn in on the 13th. Several of his good friends and his family was able to watch him be sworn in.
He scored very well on the ASVAB so he was able to get the job he wanted. Considering that he had a GED, a high score on the ASVAB was imperative otherwise he would not qualify for the bonuses or specific jobs. I have to brag on him a little here...he scored 18 points higher than college graduate that took it at the same time. As the recruiter put it, "he hit it out of the park!"
The job he selected is Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Operations Specialist ("CBRN"). He will do basic training and attend Chemical School at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri (not too far from home!). Here is a link to the Chemical School to learn more about his job http://www.wood.army.mil/cbrns/ .
We found out on the day he was sworn in that he would ship out in only 8 days--on the 20th. That was way too fast for me to get prepared.
